ABOUT ME

snoopy2.jpg

My name is Matt, and I'm an illustrator, animator and designer based in Leicestershire, UK.

As a kid, I spent hours drawing my favourite characters and one of my earliest attempts to get my work on telly was to get a Snoopy drawing good enough to send into the Saturday morning show, The Multicoloured Swap Shop.

Even then, I knew I enjoyed the challenge and wasn't sure how, but I wanted to pursue a career in art.

My hobby eventually led me to study visual communication and design as a degree and later a postgraduate diploma in animation production. I'm not sure why but it took me a long time to consider animation as a career.

In the late 90s I graduated and found my first creative position as an animator/designer in a great studio near Waterloo Station in London. Although Ealing Animation mainly created stop motion series the role had a lot of varied 2D responsibilities and was a great first step on my professional creative journey.

As a animator, storyboard artist, character designer, or background artist I have been fortunate to work on shows, features, and games such as Bod the Builder & Pingu (Hot Animation), Cramp Twins, Heidi and Rudy & Trudy (Telemagination), Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs (Silver Fox Animation), A Christmas Carol (Illuminated Film Company) Likeables and Chugginton (Cosgrove Hall Films), Sergeant Stripes (Ealing Animation) and I even ended up as the furry arm of an artistic monster on a live-action kids show (Ni Ni's Treehouse) briefly.

In more recent years have been able to broaden my experience running a design and animation team creating platforms, games, and promotional material for leading online educational resources providers EducationCity & Edmentum Learning.

Noel Edmonds, sadly never saw my potential as the pressure of drawing the perfect Snoopy was too much for young me, however, this early challenge did mark the beginnings of an exciting and varied creative career.
